This position is responsible for developing and executing digital media strategies under the direction of the Executive Director and in collaboration with the Content Manager, Data Analyst, Communications Specialist and others. The position manages the Tribe’s digital presence including social media, develops campaigns, makes recommendations on improving digital media use, etc. This position works as a team member in support of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians and is expected to contribute to the Communications Department’s success. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and implement the Tribe’s digital communication strategies and procedures, and make recommendations for improving. Manage the Tribe’s owned-channel digital presence, including websites, social media and e-newsletters. This includes drafting posts, posting and monitoring digital media and also includes coordinating other staff who may be assigned to specific digital media tasks such as posting from live events, managing day-to-day website maintenance, managing online forms or creating e-newsletters. Manage Tribal Administration’s and individual departments’ non-Tribal channel online presence and reputation such as through search engine optimization, or by claiming and managing Google Business Profiles, Google Maps or Apple Maps listings, LinkedIn listings or other third-party online listings of Tribal departments and projects. Review and provide oversight to Tribal Administration departments’ requests for and use of digital media channels in accordance with the Tribe’s Social Media Policy and other applicable policies. Develop and administer procedures for carrying out relevant digital media policies. Develop ways to use digital media as strategic tools to build knowledge of the Tribe for external audiences and to enhance communication within the Tribe for Members and employees. Define, develop and adhere to site style guide, content rules and best practices that provide a consistent voice, tone and style of online content. Work with Language and other departments to ensure, for example, that the Tribe’s Twulshootseed language is accurately presented on digital channels. Assess Tribal Administration departments’, Tribal committees’ and others’ digital media opportunities, needs and problems; devise and present solutions; and implement. Examples include online application forms, online payment systems and interactive online solutions. Develop and implement digital media campaigns, plans and strategies such as to promote registration for departments’ upcoming events, participation in community planning, or action on various issues. Manage relationships with third parties including website developers, hosts and related vendors. Determine feasibility, cost and time required, compatibility with current system and computer capabilities required for new or revised websites. Train and coordinate staff within Communications Department and in other departments in website and social media account updating, page design and enhancements, and best practices management. Lead overall strategy and content of Tribe’s various social media accounts, while collaborating with Content Manager and others to ensure the department’s messaging is consistent across all media including print and digital. Ensure adequate coverage for Tribal-owned digital channels so that the department can respond to emergent needs 24/7, 365 days a year. Act as the department’s in-house digital media expert. Stay up to date on digital media best practices, trends and tools (including AI), laws and regulations regarding digital media (including ADA accessibility, commercial speech, Puyallup Tribe employee code of conduct and social media policies, and anti-spam laws). Apply new knowledge to work, and make recommendations to improve the Tribe’s digital media effectiveness. Advise Executive Director and staff of needs, opportunities and problems. Research, recommend and introduce digital tools (which could include apps, social media management tools, video production software, ESRI Story Maps, etc.) that will enhance Tribe’s communications abilities. Oversee training of staff on same. Collaborate with Tribal Entities’ digital media staff as needed. Track day-to-day social media for potential issues that may affect the Tribe. Coordinate responses. Respond to, route or coordinate responses to general inquiries that come to the Tribe through digital media. Contribute to crisis communications response as needed. Measure digital channels’ performance and make recommendations on how to best use data to improve or change systems. Research trends and audience preferences and apply findings to digital platforms. Collaborate with the Data Analyst in this and other applicable areas. Act as a senior manager within the Communications Department, which includes acting independently to review and approve others’ work when needed, and setting an example of high standards and teamwork for rest of department, and may include filling Executive Director’s functions when Executive Director is absent. Act as a project manager as needed, including planning, scheduling and ensuring necessary work is done. Ensure content governance best practices are applied to the Tribe’s digital media platforms, including PuyallupTribe-nsn.gov. Provide regular reports to the Executive Director and other appropriate department staff on the Tribe’s digital media presence, success of campaigns, insights, etc. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Marketing, Communications or Journalism or a related field is required. Must have a minimum of three years of work experience in digital media. Intermediate to extensive knowledge of word processing is required. Must demonstrate working knowledge of web analytics and reporting. Must demonstrate experience working with WordPress or similar CMS, social media management tools, video storytelling tools, analytics tools, and social media advertising tools. Must demonstrate knowledge of communications ethics, legal requirements and organizational tone and voice. Must demonstrate ability to work productively and respectfully with wide variety of people whose departments or committees require digital media support but who do not have digital skills themselves. Must demonstrate ability to work productively on a team. Must have experience in maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to follow oral instructions and write news and feature stories using correct English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration and percentages. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Licenses, Certificates Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted Washington State driver’s license and proof of insurance. Driver’s License restrictions must not prevent the employee from complying with the Tribe’s Vehicle Use Policy or driving a GSA vehicle. Other Requirements Must have reliable transportation. This position must be able to work with all levels of personnel within the Organization and with clients and vendors. Must demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and oral.
