Position Description

Ohlone College is creating a pool of qualified applicants for temporary, part‑time teaching assignments in music. Assignments may include day, evening, and weekend courses, and may be in‑person, online, or hybrid. Positions are filled on an as‑needed basis; applications remain in the pool for two years.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Teach music in accordance with post‑secondary level course outlines.
  • Evaluate student work using clear criteria relevant to course content and student learning outcomes; provide feedback in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and submit accurate records (grades, syllabi, attendance reports) by published deadlines.
  • Create an equity‑based and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Perform duties described in Board policy, the United Faculty of Ohlone bargaining unit contact, the Faculty Handbook, and as assigned at the Fremont Campus and Newark Center, online via eCampus, or other designated locations.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s in Music; OR Bachelor’s in Music AND Master’s in Humanities; OR the equivalent AND commitment to community college goals of equity, anti‑racism, and quality programs for diverse and disabled students; personal qualities for effective multicultural work and sensitivity; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non‑traditional and/or re‑entry students; proof of responsiveness to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds. Desirable Qualifications

  • Teaching experience at the community college level (desired but not required).
  • Experience using innovative teaching methods that encourage student engagement.
  • Experience creating socially conscious syllabi, equitable materials, and inclusive pedagogical practices.
  • Experience addressing equity issues; recent work with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other minoritized students; commitment to participatory governance and consensus building.
  • Experience with computer technology as a teaching tool, including Blackboard, Canvas, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
