About GM Motorsports General Motors is a leader in global motorsports, with Chevrolet competing at the highest levels in both IndyCar and NASCAR. These programs are central to GM’s performance and brand strategy, showcasing innovation, engineering excellence, and fan engagement. As our presence grows, we’re expanding our communications team to support and amplify these efforts.
The Role This role will lead communications efforts for GM’s U.S.-based motorsport programs, including Chevrolet’s involvement in IndyCar and NASCAR. The position offers a unique opportunity to shape the narrative of two of America’s most iconic racing series, manage high‑profile media relations, and deliver compelling content across platforms. The candidate will be expected to elevate storytelling beyond the motorsport press to support Chevrolet’s brand and product portfolio. Integration and amplification of our U.S. motorsport efforts across GM will be critical to success.
What You’ll Do Content Creation & Editorial
Develop press releases, race reports, statements, messaging documents, driver/team quotes, and internal communications specific to Chevrolet in IndyCar and NASCAR.
Collaborate with creative and digital teams to produce engaging social media content and multimedia assets (photo, video, graphics).
Support storytelling initiatives that highlight technical innovation, performance, team culture, and brand values.
Provide content articles for GM News, Chevrolet.com, and internal/external press rooms.
Media Relations
Oversee, develop and harness the trackside media team for Chevrolet’s IndyCar and NASCAR programs.
Manage automotive and lifestyle media requests, interviews, and press opportunities with drivers, engineers, and team leadership.
Organize media briefings for senior executives.
Host automotive and lifestyle media visits at race events and team facilities.
Develop stories that resonate beyond specialist motorsport media to elevate Chevrolet’s brand narrative.
Event & Race Weekend Support
Bolster on-site communications support at key IndyCar and NASCAR events across the U.S.
Coordinate hospitality communications and guest experience materials.
Capture and distribute behind‑the‑scenes content for internal and external audiences.
Liaise with series organizers, promoters, and team partners to ensure messaging alignment and maximize exposure.
Internal Communications & Integration
Develop internal updates and content for GM stakeholders, including global teams and dealer networks.
Ensure regular updates across key internal channels, including intranet sites and motorsport Slack channels.
Ensure messaging consistency across Chevrolet and GM brand teams.
Act as the internal champion to amplify our U.S. motorsport programs across all areas of the business.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
4+ years of experience in motorsports, automotive, or sports communications.
Exceptional writing and editing skills with a strong grasp of brand tone and voice.
Experience managing media relations and producing content in fast‑paced environments.
Familiarity with the U.S. motorsport media landscape, particularly IndyCar and NASCAR.
Willingness to travel frequently, including weekends and holidays.
Passion for motorsports and brand storytelling.
The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington. The salary range for this role is ($102,000 – $159,700). The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position. Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
