RuptureXIBIT Invitational Residency for Visual Artists & Writers
Deadline: n/a
City: London | Region: London | Country: United Kingdom | RuptureXIBIT Studio
RuptureXIBIT is an inclusive, artist‑run space/art incubator located in Hampton Wick, London. It hosts art‑mentoring & coaching workshops, intensive immersive residencies and experimental exhibitions.
We host an Invitational Residency once a quarter for visual artists. These month‑long, sponsored residencies are for artists with more established practices who want to take the time and space to develop new work.
These residencies are
FREE
and offer the artist in residence connection to the Rupture community. You will have the opportunity to discuss new work and work in progress that is pushing or advancing your practice.
We are currently accepting proposals for winter 2025 and spring 2026.
Residencies do not require complete work or a show, but you must host an artist’s talk and join the quarterly Open Studios Salon Event.
In the 350‑sq‑ft high‑street shop‑front gallery you will receive four weeks of studio/gallery space, access to workshops and group critiques, informal support, and promotion across multiple platforms. Our in‑house team provides full support.
What can you gain from a Residency at RuptureXIBIT?
Over the past five years the Rupture team has worked with over 1,000 international artists at all career stages, offering a platform for growth and collaboration. We meet each artist where they need to be met and provide the time, space, and rigor to examine and expand their individual practice.
Residents gain a sense of strength, purpose, and permission. They become ready to work, have met new artists, and leave Rupture with new ideas and confidence. Many have gone on to show work with other exhibitions and galleries across London and beyond, and have created collaborative relationships.

What is RuptureXIBIT Mentoring?
Mentoring is bespoke, meeting each artist right where they are, identifying practices that feel thin or inauthentic, and helping them remove roadblocks for development. It focuses on building a scaffold of practice, trusting their work, and working from impulse. We provide workshops and one‑on‑one support.
We believe the solution is not a one‑size‑fits‑all plan, but tailored to your current practice and goals.
Who is this residency suitable for?
Solo applicants or small artists’ collectives who have established practices.
What's on offer
A four‑week residency in the front studio/gallery
An Open Studio Event on the final weekend of the residency
Four 90‑minute mentoring sessions with Sally Minns and Kate Howe
Support from a Project Manager during your residency
Advertising of your Residency and Open Studio on social media
Coverage in our newsletter
Advertising of your open studio on prominent art sites including Art Rabbit and others
Use of an Eventbrite booking system
An opportunity to talk about your work to a diverse audience of art lovers
Flexibility for events in the space (readings, talks, lectures, podcasts, catalogue launches, critiques, drawing days, workshops)
Emphasis on developing your practice and professional skills. We are not a traditional gallery
Any sales during or resulting from the residency or open studio are processed by the artist, but RuptureXIBIT will take a 20% commission on every sale
Requirements
A written proposal for your residency (up to 500 words) describing your concept and the open studio event.
Up to ten images of work (portfolio of current work).
A statement (up to 500 words) about how a mentoring residency will benefit your practice, including experimental goals.
If your application is accepted, we will ask for:
An artist or writer’s bio (max 250 words)
A brief description of your current work and practice (150‑200 words)
A brief description of your proposal for use on our website and social media (up to 250 words)
What do I need to provide during the residency?
All materials required for your work and the open studio.
Regular recording and sharing of your work in progress with the in‑house marketing team weekly.
Documentation and visibility
Our media team documents each artist’s progress, posting to our channels (Substack, Instagram) and interviewing the writer in residence for our newsletter (~1500 readers). The open studios event encourages community engagement and promotion on the Rupture website and Eventbrite.
Other details
This opportunity is for artists and writers with established practices. The residency is free of charge (excluding accommodation, travel, or other expenses). The application process uses CuratorSpace; you need an account to submit.
