Youth Services Librarian , you will have the exciting opportunity to:

Engage with youth and families:

Deliver day-to-day library services to children, teens, and caregivers, helping them discover books, technology, and resources that spark imagination and learning.

Create and lead programs:

Plan, present, prepare, promote, and evaluate engaging Youth Services programs that support literacy, creativity, and community connection.

Build community partnerships:

Promote the library to local schools, youth-focused organizations, and community groups to expand awareness and participation in Youth Services offerings.

Curate the collection:

Assist with developing and maintaining the Youth Services materials collection, ensuring it remains current, accessible, and responsive to the needs of young patrons and their families.

Support daily library service:

Assist patrons within the Youth Services department, helping them navigate library resources and offering knowledgeable, friendly guidance.

Enhance discovery spaces:

Prepare attractive and engaging displays of Youth Services materials that highlight new titles, themes, and learning opportunities.

Support library operations:

Serve as a backup for branch operations in the absence of the location manager, helping maintain smooth and effective daily operations.

Lead with service:

Provide prompt, courteous, and inclusive customer service to patrons of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

Guide volunteers:

Supervise and support volunteers who help deliver programs and essential library services.

Maintain a welcoming environment:

Address facility management needs as appropriate to ensure a safe, clean, and inviting library space for all.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with a team, and a commitment to providing inclusive service to a diverse community. You should be comfortable engaging with patrons of all ages, including children, teens, and those who speak languages other than English. Initiative, creativity, and flexibility are key—along with a willingness to grow and learn.

Spanish language skills are a plus.

You must have a mix of education and work experience. This means: One of the following:

A Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science (or a closely related field) from an accredited graduate program

A Bachelor’s Degree and current enrollment in an accredited graduate library school program, with graduation expected within six (6) months of hire

A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science

Preferred:

At least one year of experience working in a library or a closely related field

A valid driver’s license with a good driving record

Work Schedule

Full-time, 80 hours bi-weekly

Schedule includes variable hours with evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays

Employees may be temporarily or permanently reassigned to another library location based on system needs
