Senior Community and Library Services Supervisor

overseeing recreational programs and services in the

Program Services Division.

is an enthusiastic, forward-thinking, and community-focused recreation professional with experience overseeing diverse programs such as youth sports, aquatics, events, contract classes, and day camps while fostering a positive, collaborative work environment. They excel in developing programs that meet community needs, working closely with staff, contracted instructors, and service providers to deliver innovative and high-quality offerings. Highly analytical, they use data tracking and performance measures to ensure efficient service delivery, inform program improvements, and support sound decision-making. Technologically proficient, they play an integral role in managing recreation software systems for registration and facility operations. They will bring strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a passion for enhancing recreation services that enrich the lives of the Huntington Beach community.

THE DEPARTMENT The mission statement of the Community & Library Services Department is to "provide outstanding programs, services and facilities that enhance and enrich the lives of our residents and visitors" and to "welcome, empower, and enrich our community by providing innovative and traditional library services that inspire and encourage transformation and growth." The Community & Library Services Department carries out this mission by providing a full spectrum of year-round and seasonal recreational, cultural, human, and library services programs.

THE POSITION The Senior Community and Library Services Supervisor provides leadership and direction for recreational operations in the Program Services Division. Supervises, coordinates and oversees the program development, operations, staff, and marketing.

Analyzes the organization’s mission, goals, and strategic plan for appropriateness and implementation; evaluates program effectiveness and adjusts as required

Oversees marketing, contract development, monitoring, and sponsorship development; identifies, cultivates, and solicits financial support from grants, sponsors, foundations, and individual and corporate members; develops and oversees the annual fundraising programs

Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates assigned portions of city-wide Community Services programs, activities, and events in the assigned area

Serves as a staff member or representative to foundations and city-appointed commissions, committees, and/or task forces

Supervises full and part-time staff including hiring and retention, staff training and development, and performance appraisals

Develops promotional and program materials; makes public presentations on services offered; gathers and disseminates information regarding community services, programs, goals, and community needs; conducts public presentations to community groups

Coordinates the activities of the assigned area with city-sponsored, co-sponsored, and community-sponsored activities

Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position is qualifying. A typical combination includes:

Education:

A bachelor’s degree in public administration, organizational leadership, recreation and leisure services, human or social services, or a related field.

Experience:

Five (5) years of experience in community center management, public relations, recreation, events, or related experience, including three (3) years of supervisory experience.

Licenses/Certifications:

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required at the time of appointment and throughout employment.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS Employees who may drive a city or personal vehicle in the course and scope of work shall be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program.

Public Employee Disaster Service Worker:

In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, all Huntington Beach city employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of an emergency or a disaster.
