Location: Sterling Heights, MI
Pay: $52.60/hour
Join a leading defense contractor as a Senior Technical Writer, creating and revising technical documentation that supports the marketing, operation, repair, and maintenance of advanced systems and equipment. In this role, you'll translate complex engineering data into clear, accurate, and user‑friendly manuals, procedures, and guides for internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities
Develop, edit, and maintain complex technical documentation, including:
Functional descriptions, operating procedures, fault isolation, maintenance, and repair procedures
Illustrated parts breakdowns (IPB), proposals, and marketing literature
Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to produce clear, user‑focused manuals
Ensure compliance with customer requirements, engineering standards, and language principles
Evaluate and incorporate illustrations, graphics, and IETMs into documentation
Participate in validation and review efforts, including onsite and offsite evaluations
Lead small or sections of larger documentation projects
Collaborate with engineers and subject‑matter experts to ensure accuracy and clarity
Maintain expertise in publishing software, XML authoring tools, CMS, and technical writing trends
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent + 5 years of relevant experience
Defense industry experience preferred
Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and system operations
Proficiency with XML authoring tools (e.g., Arbortext Epic Editor, Oxygen), MS Office Suite, and Adobe Acrobat or similar tools
Experience with Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) and content management systems (CMS) preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail
Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross‑functional teams across multiple locations
Customer interaction and problem‑solving skills, including responding to technical questions
Preferred Qualifications
Hands‑on experience in mechanical/electrical systems or operator manuals
Knowledge of military and commercial documentation standards
Experience with validation/verification or on‑vehicle documentation
