Hourly Rate: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour
Hours
Position 1: Weekend: Fridays 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm, Saturdays 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, Sundays 10:00 am – 6:00 pm (20 hours)
Position 2: Evening: Sundays 4:00 pm – 12:00 am, Tuesdays 6:00 pm – 12:00 am, Thursdays 6:00 pm – 12:00 am (20 hours)
Position Summary
The O’Malley Library is seeking two reliable and dedicated part‑time Library Associates to work in the Access Services Department. Reporting to the Director of Public Service, the Library Associate will assist library patrons at the main desk, answer and document inquiries, maintain statistics, and work with others to ensure good relations with all patrons. They will check in and out materials using Worldshare Management Services (WMS), perform collection maintenance tasks such as shelving, shifting, and inventory, supervise student workers as needed, open and close the library building, and work closely with other library personnel to communicate and enforce policies in a courteous and helpful way. Additional hours may be required during finals, and opportunities to work on special projects may be available during reduced hours (summer and intersession). This is an in‑person on‑campus non‑remote position.
Primary Responsibilities
Open and/or close the library
Assist library patrons: answer questions, document inquiries and requests, refer patrons to librarians or other units as necessary
Check in and out library books and media
Perform collection maintenance tasks: shelf reading, shifting, inventory, weeding, book displays
Effectively interpret and enforce access services policies and procedures
Assist with maintenance of printers, photocopiers, scanners, and related technologies
Maintain knowledge of current library policies, collections, services, and technologies
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and patrons/customers
Good communication skills, including professional competence in writing
Significant experience with general‑purpose software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies with appropriate instruction and support
Strongly Preferred
Bachelor’s degree or higher
Successful work experience in an educational, office, or library setting
Experience responding to questions and concerns in ways that maintain customer satisfaction
Ability to explain policies clearly and enforce them with broader institutional goals in mind
Demonstrated ability to handle precise, detailed work
