Skymap Games is hiring an
Unreal Graphics Engineer
with a passion for pushing the visual and technical boundaries of real-time rendering. This role is ideal for developers with strong expertise in materials, shaders, procedural content generation, and performance optimization. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our game not only looks stunning but also runs efficiently across platforms. Working closely with art, design, and engineering, you’ll help create optimized, scalable, and visually compelling experiences for players.
Responsibilities
Drive performance analysis and optimization across the game project, focusing on rendering efficiency and frame stability
Collaborate with artists to bring stylized or realistic visual targets to life while ensuring technical feasibility
Design and maintain tools and workflows to streamline the creation of materials, shaders, and procedural content
Develop, implement, and optimize shaders and material systems to achieve high-quality visuals while maintaining performance budgets
Optimize procedural content generation (PCG) systems for scalability and runtime efficiency
Profile GPU and CPU performance using industry-standard tools and resolve bottlenecks in rendering and graphics workflows
Ensure cross-platform graphical fidelity and optimization, with an eye toward scalability for diverse hardware configurations
Collaborate with other engineers on rendering architecture and contribute to the long-term graphics roadmap
Requirements
6+ years of professional game industry programming experience, with a focus on graphics, rendering, or engine-level development
Advanced experience with Unreal Engine 4 or 5, including the material editor, shader development, and rendering pipeline
Strong C/C++ programming skills with deep knowledge of GPU/CPU performance optimization, memory management, and multithreading
Proven ability to profile and optimize complex rendering systems for real-time applications
Experience with shader languages (HLSL/GLSL) and real-time graphics APIs (DirectX, Vulkan, or Metal)
Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with familiarity in GPU and CPU performance profiling tools
Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to cross-disciplinary teams
A commitment to a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment
Nice to Have
Experience with procedural content generation (PCG) workflows and optimization
Familiarity with advanced rendering techniques such as ray tracing, global illumination, or virtual texturing
Knowledge of compute shaders and GPU-driven pipelines
Experience optimizing large-scale open-world environments or complex rendering scenarios
Familiarity with art workflows and cross-discipline collaboration (technical art, environment art)
Background in working with distributed, fully remote teams
