About The Role: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented

Mechanical Designer/Machinist

to join our team in San Diego, CA. In this role, you will play a key part in the design, prototyping, and fabrication of precision mechanical components that support our advanced products and systems. This position offers a unique opportunity to combine mechanical design expertise with hands-on machining experience, working in close collaboration with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams. What You’ll Do

Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD). Program, set up, and operate CNC machines, mills, lathes, and other shop equipment to manufacture high-tolerance parts. Collaborate with engineers and technical teams to iterate on designs and address manufacturing challenges. Interpret technical drawings, engineering specifications, and apply GD&T standards. Perform dimensional and quality inspections to ensure components meet design requirements. Document machining processes, setup procedures, and assembly instructions. Maintain and calibrate shop equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety. Support product development through hands-on prototyping and creative mechanical solutions. Qualifications

Associate degree or technical certification in Mechanical Design, Machining, or related field (bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is a plus). Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design and precision machining. Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and CAM programming tools. In-depth knowledge of machining processes, materials, tolerances, and manufacturing best practices. Experience operating and troubleshooting CNC and manual machining equipment. Strong GD&T knowledge and ability to interpret complex technical drawings. Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently and in a team. 3D Systems is an equal opportunity employer.
