This is difficult and responsible work, providing close first-line supervision to personnel and activities on a shift in the Communications Center. This position is responsible for ensuring that quality customer telecommunications service is delivered to members of the community and the department courteously, professionally, and timely. Work is performed under the direction of the Emergency Communications Manager. Employees are subject to rotating shift assignments, including working weekends and holidays. Additional Benefits

Effectively manages assignments and priorities to ensure the fulfillment of projects, tasks, and responsibilities Follows suggested procedures to ensure the highest standards of risk management, employee safety, and risk avoidance Directs and supervises Emergency Communications Dispatchers assigned to the Communications Center each shift Schedules personnel for appropriate staffing levels; coordinates training for new personnel; plans and coordinates development of employees, which includes providing professional growth opportunities to subordinates Reviews and evaluates subordinate’s work performance; recommends disciplinary action, as required; counsels subordinates and assists as necessary in any work-related problems, and when requested, directs the employee to the proper resource for assistance with personnel problems Enforces the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the department; takes the initiative to identify and resolve problems Assists in the preparation and control of the budget; maintains records and data for statistical analysis, as required Technical

Receives in-coming calls for service; handles complaints from citizens Assists in the preparation and control of the budget; maintains records and data for statistical analysis, as required Coordinates the Communications Center activities during difficult situations and/or major emergencies Performs short and long-range planning and assists in meeting established goals and objectives Inputs, accesses, and retrieves data from computer systems Deals with equipment malfunctions and schedules maintenance of the Communications Center equipment Acts as the liaison with police operational supervisors Team Skills

EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATUS

As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description. The starting salary range for this position is $59,820.80 to $68,790.80 depending on experience and qualifications. Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Associate’s Degree in Management, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a closely related field and three (3) years of directly related experience in law enforcement communications or a combination of law enforcement, fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Communications Operations; or a combination of education, training, and experience Must be able to successfully pass Criticall with an overall score of 80% or higher, minimum of 25wpm and 3,000 kpH or higher. Florida Telecommunicator Certification required (or obtained within the first six (6) months of employment) Must have / or be able to successfully obtain required certifications including but not limited to; Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Full Access certifiation and Criminal Justice Information (CJIS) Level 2 – CJIS Security Awareness certification. One (1) year of related supervisory experience preferred Valid Driver's License Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of City boundaries, police districts, and map grids Thorough knowledge of City and Department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures Knowledge of communications systems design, application, use, location of equipment, and interconnecting circuits Ability to effectively manage multiple ongoing projects/assignments simultaneously to meet established deadlines Ability to input, access, and retrieve data from a computer Ability to assign and evaluate subordinates' work product, prepare clear and comprehensive reports, and communicate effectively orally and in writing Ability to motivate subordinates to achieve peak performance, lead and command the respect of personnel, direct their work under routine and emergency conditions, and take charge of critical incidents calmly and effectively under crisis conditions Qualifications

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work Environment: 100% inside a climate-controlled building. Physical Requirements: The essential functions of the job require: sitting approximately eight (8) hours per day. The work requires rare: bending/stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to 15 pounds, lifting/carrying of objects weighing 15 to 44 pounds, and lifting/carrying of objects weighing 45 pounds and over. Sensory Requirements: Hearing: Ability to understand clear and concise phone conversations and radio traffic. Speaking: Ability to answer questions on the phone and the radio, dispatch units on the radio to the appropriate location, and provide instruction to trainees. Seeing: Ability to see and read computer monitor screens, detect color coding, and read fine and normal print. Driving Requirements: Requires frequent driving and possession of a valid Florida Driver's License. Technology: The work requires the ability to operate telephones, smartphones, tablets, photocopiers, printers, desktop and/or laptop computers, calculators, and all associated software. Tools: The work requires proficiency with various tools for radio and computer maintenance IMPORTANT INFORMATION
