Percentage of time that could be remote (0-100%): 100% – This work is mostly completed at a computer: emailing, writing, interviewing, editing, using WordPress, researching, and other work as assigned.

Method to assess remote work: Student workers are assessed on the quality and timeliness of work completed, meeting deadlines, responding to emails, and participating in team events. All writing projects will be edited before publication. The student worker will also participate in a semi-annual performance evaluation process.

Job Description

The Office of Strategic Communication seeks to hire a Writer / Communications Generalist. The writing component of this role will include drafting and revising class notes, student and alumni profiles, news for Common Thread, and features for the Antioch Alumni Magazine. (Student writers are credited as authors for longer pieces.) This position will also assist with various communications tasks including emailing, interviewing, editing, using WordPress, researching, crafting social media posts, participating in team meetings, and other work as assigned.

The Writer / Communications Generalist will need to set consistent hours (at least 12 hrs/wk) where they will be "in-office" and available by email and Google Chat.

Approximately 15 hrs/wk will be spent on writing and writing‑adjacent tasks, with the remaining 5 hrs/wk spent on various support tasks and meetings.

Qualifications

A Writer / Communications Generalist will display excellent research and writing skills, strong interpersonal proactive communication ability, and the demonstrated capacity to work self‑directly and complete assignments by deadline.

The preferred candidate will have previously published in some way and will have a working knowledge of WordPress.
