Splat Lab is a beloved magical STEAM and Social Studies enrichment program that engages youth in hands‑on Anthropology and STEAM activities. They are seeking highly skilled, master‑level Teaching Artists to complement their roster of educators with a mix of experience.

Schedule Howard Beach Placement:

Tues/Thurs 2:45‑5:20 – Elementary School‑aged

Fridays 2:45‑4:20 – Middle School

Far Rockaway – ideal candidate speaks Spanish:

Mon, Tues, Wed 2:15‑4:00

They work with schools and after‑school programs in a number of ways, offering extended‑day, school‑day residencies, and camps. They have a distinct curriculum that is differentiated for ages 3K‑8th grade but primarily work with 3K‑3rd grade.

Responsibilities Master Teaching Artists facilitate Splat Lab’s curriculum, modify projects and group management based on the needs of each site, and collaborate with counselors or teachers at the school. They work independently or with an assigned TA, provide high‑quality training for educators, and ensure workshops are magical, highly professional, and engaging for all students. They also manage logistics, timing, and classroom setup, including the four rotating stations: Main Splat, Splat Create, Open Splat, and Splat Build.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years as a teaching artist, specialist, or museum educator working with youth in a leadership role (after‑school, summer camps, museums, or early childhood settings).

BA required, Masters preferred.

Must be able to work alone and manage 20 students or delegate non‑Splat staff to assist in leading workshops.

Comfortable with large DOE classrooms and timing with school teachers for daytime workshops.

Strong organizational skills: keeping up with emails, curriculum folders, schedules, and virtual communication with manager.

Dynamic, magnetic personality that engages all students.

Excellent group‑management skills, confident organizing transitions, structured projects, and clear rituals.

Ability to direct and collaborate with TAs to keep students excited and on task.

Experience with strength‑based, restorative, positive discipline practices.

Must be fully vaccinated and over 18.

Background and training in teaching arts.

Anthropology: content knowledge or interest in social studies, history, anthropology or art and ability to learn new curriculum/content.

Splat Lab: strong facilitation, classroom‑management skills, STEM knowledge a plus.

Experience in Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio Emilia or similar is highly encouraged.

Experience with under‑resourced schools and special needs populations an advantage.

Spanish speaking or second‑language knowledge a plus for many placements.
