About Transcripts

When a degree is a minimum requirement, a copy of transcripts is required to verify that degree and the conferment date. Omission or incomplete transcripts may result in screening as not meeting minimum requirements.

Degrees must be awarded by a college or university accredited by a U.S. accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Council on Post‑Secondary Accreditation or the U.S. Department of Education.

Position Information

Position Title: Part‑Time Applied Music Instructor (Pool)

Position ID: FY14/15‑034POOL

Campus: Mission College – Santa Clara, CA

Salary: Up to a maximum of 67% of a full‑time load, prorated between $38,464 and $55,582 per semester based on experience.

Work Location: Mission College, Santa Clara, CA

Workload: 0.4–0.67 full‑time equivalent, classes in day, evening, Saturday and/or online/distance formats during Spring, Summer and/or Fall semesters.

Collective Bargaining Unit: West Valley‑Mission Federation of Teachers (WVMFT), AFT 6554.

Position Summary The Music Department seeks qualified instructors to teach individual lessons on one of the following instruments: flute, oboe, english horn, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, french horn, tuba, violin, viola, cello, bass, percussion, guitar or piano.

Responsibilities

Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in‑class or online/distance activities, evaluation of student work, and consultation outside of class.

Maintain accurate class records and submit attendance rosters and grade reports on time.

Follow course outlines as filed in the instruction offices.

Hold office hours each week, at least 0.5 hours per week per section.

Observe, support and enforce District and college regulations, policies and programs.

Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course, per the Faculty Handbook.

Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other services.

Assist students in advising on requirements for successful achievement in the areas of expertise.

Work cooperatively within the college community and foster a positive, harassment‑free learning environment.

Demonstrate respect for the dignity of each individual.

Desired Qualifications

Active performance involvement.

Experience organizing performance recitals for students.

Minimum of 10 years performing experience on their instrument.

Minimum of 5 years teaching experience on their instrument.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Possess one of the following: - Master’s degree in music; - Bachelor’s degree in music AND Master’s degree in humanities; - Valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Music; - Equivalent of the above.

Demonstrated ability to effectively teach, counsel or work with diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Selection Process

Applications are screened on an as‑needed basis; qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview.

Travel expenses for interview are the candidate’s responsibility.

Applications remain in the online system for one year; part‑time pools are refreshed annually.
