Summary: Stanford Athletics seeks an Assistant Athletics Director, Broadcast & Technical Operations to lead the delivery of first‑class television broadcasts and oversee daily technical operations (video boards, audio systems, replay, coaches film). The successful candidate will be a self‑motivated, organized problem solver capable of orchestrating live event production. They will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders—including facility operations, marketing, fan experience, ESPN, the ACC—to ensure the best event viewing experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

Broadcast Operations

Collaborate on design, integration, and execution of the Production Control Room.

Work with the ACC and ESPN on requirements, schedules, and production needs.

Oversee live event broadcasts for Stanford across linear, digital, and in‑venue platforms.

Coordinate training and development of full‑time and part‑time staff.

Schedule and staff broadcasting and videoboard staffing at events.

Assist in recruiting, developing, and scheduling broadcast talent.

Lead a team of broadcast professionals, engineers, and game‑day operators/freelancers.

Review budgeting, staffing plans, and evaluate personnel and service providers.

Maintain technical knowledge to meet conference and department specifications.

Ensure equipment readiness and event coverage through scheduling and communication.

Serve in any roles within the production room, including producer and director, as needed.

Video Board Production

Serve as main contact for production team during planning and execution of live events with venue video boards and online streams.

Ensure video boards are maintained and operational for athletics events.

Assist with campus events, venue rentals, and national television broadcasts.

Co‑lead on physical video board needs, acquisitions, and replacements with capital projects teams.

Oversee staffing for videoboard operation.

Financial and Asset Management

Oversee budget for daily operations, equipment, staffing, and maintenance.

Follow procurement guidelines and establish financial parameters.

Develop equipment inventory and life‑cycle replacement plan for production room and video board assets.

Assist in budget development for annual and long‑term planning.

Oversee all assets related to venue video boards, scoreboards, and the production control room.

Administrative

Align production with departmental vision and goals.

Develop policies, procedures, and protocols reflecting industry best practices.

Hire, train, and manage direct reports.

Stay updated on technology trends and anticipate department needs.

Act as point person for technical operations and capital projects within athletic facilities.

Assist with payroll submission and reconciliation for event staffing.

Engage in training and development programs.

Represent athletics in technical discussions with university or external staff for live broadcasts.

Collaborate with IT, operations, and content creation to resolve problems.

Maintain Daktronics systems and control room equipment.

Other Duties

Staff campus events as needed.

Produce additional broadcasts for the department.

Perform duties as assigned.

Qualifications

5‑7 years of experience in video industry, including television broadcast, live streaming, and video board production.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience.

Experience integrating or refreshing an arena/venue broadcast control room.

Expertise in broadcast control rooms and staffing needs for live events.

Familiarity with modern broadcast cabling infrastructure.

Managerial experience in broadcast control room settings.

Strong communication with network staff and department leaders.

Leadership of production staff and gameday personnel.

Knowledge of video board production in sports facilities.

Understanding of linear and digital streaming markets.

Budget forecasting and management skills.

Collaborative personality; encourages innovation.

Independent, organized, executive skill set.

Strategic thinking, ability to adapt quickly.

Relationship management with vendors and stakeholders.

Advanced knowledge of AV production systems, cameras, editing, audio, video, and lighting controls.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time‑management skills.

Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional long shifts.

Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 25 pounds.

Knowledge of analog, digital video, fiber, and audio systems.

Experience supporting game presentation elements and fan experience staff.

Strong knowledge of emerging audio/video technologies.
