The 8th Judicial District of Iowa is seeking qualified candidates for immediate Court Reporter openings. Court Reporter positions are under the direction and supervision of the District Court Administrator as the Chief Judge’s designee and can be assigned to report on proceedings with any judge in any county in the 8th Judicial District.
The starting salary for new State of Iowa Judicial employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range. Adjustments may be made if the successful applicant has relevant experience.
Hours
Monday – Friday 8:00A – 4:30P Location: To be determined

Key Responsibilities
Captures court testimony and proceedings with stenography machine.
Reads back court testimony and proceedings upon request.
Prepares transcripts, performs general office work.
Marks and records exhibits during court proceedings.
Performs related work as determined by Judge, Chief Judge or designee.
Electronic document filing required in all counties within the district.
May be required to work for any Judicial Officer within the District per operational needs.
Travel required.
Court Reporter will purchase and maintain court reporting software and stenotype machines and/or verbatim recording equipment.

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch.

Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.
Requirements
Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and graduation from a school of court reporting.
Must be certified by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters within 12 months of employment, and certification must be maintained as a condition of employment. Certification demonstrates proficiency based on the standard of the National Court Reporters Association for the earned designation of Registered Professional Reporter or the National Verbatim Reporters Association for the earned designation of Certified Verbatim Reporter.
