Position Summary The Associate Director of Content & Social Media is responsible for driving the YMCA of Greater San Francisco’s digital storytelling and social media presence. Reporting to the Sr. Executive Director of Marketing & Engagement, this role ensures that content across our web and social channels reflects who we are: welcoming, inclusive, and always evolving.
As both a creative thinker and a hands‑on contributor as an individual contributor (IC), this role manages content strategies and social media campaigns that engage audiences, strengthen our brand, and advance organizational goals. The role also ensures digital content is accessible, inclusive, and aligned with our brand voice. Working closely with the Growth Marketing Manager, Digital Marketing Coordinator (Web & Email), and internal teams, this role elevates our digital presence through compelling storytelling, consistent standards, and data‑informed decision‑making.
Job Responsibilities
Build and maintain a content editorial calendar aligned with the Y’s strategic pillars, campaigns, and community well‑being goals.
Lead editorial planning and content calendars across departments to ensure timely, coordinated storytelling.
Develop and manage web and blog content that highlights programs, impact stories, and campaigns.
Ensure all content reflects Y’s brand voice, is welcoming and inclusive, and meets accessibility and readability standards.
Partner with the Digital Production Coordinator on SEO structure, content layout, and use of visual assets.
Monitor analytics and user feedback to refine content planning and performance.
Social Media
Implement social media strategies that grow reach, engagement, and brand awareness.
Create, curate, and publish content across the Y’s consumer‑facing social media platforms.
Track trends, monitor analytics, and adjust social strategies to optimize performance.
Collaborate with Growth Marketing Manager on integrated digital campaigns, ensuring consistency across web and social channels.
Provide guidance and training for staff managing branch‑level or program‑specific accounts.
Minimum Qualifications
3-5 years experience in content production, digital communications, or social media management.
Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
Experience managing editorial calendars and cross‑channel content.
Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and commitment to inclusive communication.
Experience with CMS workflows (WordPress preferred) and social media platforms (e.g. Hootsuite).
Ability to analyze data (Google Analytics, social insights) and apply insights to improve engagement.
Experience managing translation workflows, including vendor coordination and review processes.
Desired Qualifications
Background in nonprofit, membership, or community‑focused organizations.
Experience developing governance frameworks and editorial standards.
Familiarity with design or content tools (Canva, Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud).
Multilingual content strategy or translation workflow experience.
Work Environment & Physical Demands This position requires regular in‑office work (4 days/week) and the ability to work at a computer for extended periods. May occasionally require lifting materials up to 25 lbs. for events or campaign support. Some evening or weekend work may be required to support special events or critical deadlines.
