GIL/GALILEO Systems Librarian
The University of Georgia Libraries is seeking an innovative, service‑oriented individual to serve as the GIL (GALILEO Interconnected Libraries) / GALILEO Systems Librarian. This faculty librarian position reports to the Manager of GIL / GALILEO Technical Support Services at the UGA Athens campus and will act as the library subject‑matter and ILS workflow expert for the GIL team, liaising between GIL staff and member libraries across the state.
Position: Faculty Librarian, Open Rank (Librarian I–IV), Non‑Tenure Track, Fiscal Year (12 mo.)
Salary: $65,000–$80,000, commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
Provide support for the Integrated Library System (ILS), analyzing, troubleshooting, and solving problems reported by USG and UGA library staff, and maintaining a deep understanding of complex ILS workflows, configuration, and functionality.
Monitor ServiceNow, the USG service‑management tool, to provide support for GIL services; develop solutions, assign tickets to other GIL staff, review the ticket queue, and coordinate escalation to the vendor when necessary.
Coordinate with the ILS vendor and community through committees/SIGs to provide feedback on new development efforts, prepare for and test new features, and advocate for USG community development and functionality needs.
Provide project‑management support: manage communications, facilitate meetings, build consensus, create documentation and reports, and coordinate upgrades and project timelines.
Work with state‑wide committees and GIL staff to evaluate, document, and recommend improvements for library workflows and procedures; assist with preparation and facilitation of committee meetings, webinars, or training.
Develop and maintain professional skills through continuing education, professional development activities, research, and other creative learning pursuits required for promotion.
Qualifications
Minimum: ALA‑accredited Master’s in Library and Information Science, or a relevant terminal degree.
Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Advanced knowledge of library metadata standards (BIBFRAME, RDA, MARC) and familiarity with metadata/MARC manipulation tools.
Knowledge of FOLIO, Ex Libris Alma, or other modern ILS software.
Proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, presentation applications, and other common software.
Ability to work independently and apply knowledge to new and varied problems.
Effective communication skills—verbal and written.
Commitment to professional engagement and continued development.
Working knowledge of XML and XSL; basic knowledge of at least one programming language.
Basic web‑development knowledge (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and Linux command line.
Familiarity with SQL query/report development.
Strong service orientation and organizational skills.
