Minimum Qualifications
BA/BS degree in Music Education or related field
Possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate with music (JX or JQ) endorsement
Preferred Qualifications
Successful experience teaching instrumental music, preferably at the HS and MS level
Experience teaching marching skills
Ability to work with multiple ages
Strong conducting skills
Knowledge of various instruments
Experience with marching band instruction and management
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Experience in arranging/organizing performances
Job Description
Teach High School Instrumental Music (concert/marching band, jazz band, and recreational music) and Middle School Instrumental Music (sixth, seventh, and eighth grade)
Work as part of a team of music teachers to provide a comprehensive experience
Direct and conduct rehearsals and performances for various groups, as well as solos, ensembles, honors band, and all-star band
Manage the marching band program, including rehearsals, performances, and competitions
Collaborate with other teacher, administrators, and parents to support student success and support the mission of the school
Develop and implement engaging and challenging curriculum aligned with Michigan state standards and district objectives
Manage and maintain school-owned instruments and music library
Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student growth and participation
Evaluate students’ academic and social growth and maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance
Maintain proper classroom management
Participate in school and district-wide event and activities
Administer group-standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program
Actively collaborate with the Band Boosters to support their initiatives
Maintain communications with students, parents, staff, and the community
Participate in district professional development programs as require
Any other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or designee
