The Development & Engagement Coordinator will lead efforts to grow and engage community support for the library through strategic development initiatives, creative outreach, and meaningful donor relations. This role will focus on fundraising, marketing, and community engagement—with the goal of increasing the library’s visibility, broadening its support base, and ensuring long-term sustainability. Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan in collaboration with the Library Director and Board. Identify, write, and submit grant proposals to support library programs, capital needs, and special projects. Maintain a donor database and track donor engagement, gift history, and correspondence. Coordinate annual giving campaigns, including appeals, acknowledgments. Develop strategies for attracting new donors and cultivating relationships with existing supporters. Provide administrative and creative support for fundraising events and library-hosted community events. Marketing & Communications
Create and distribute a quarterly print and/or email newsletter for donors, showcasing library impact stories, statistics, donor spotlights, and funding needs. Manage the library’s social media platforms, ensuring timely, engaging, and mission-aligned content. Develop promotional materials (digital and print) for campaigns, and events. Collaborate with staff to highlight and promote library services to current and prospective users. Maintain a consistent library voice across platforms that reflects the library’s mission and values. Assist with website updates related to fundraising and donor recognition. Take photos at events to use in publicity and reporting. Community Engagement
Act as a liaison between the library and local organizations, civic groups, and businesses to promote partnerships and sponsorships. Help plan and promote community-focused events hosted by the library or the board. Represent the library at outreach events and community meetings as needed. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 1–3 years of experience in fundraising, marketing, or community engagement—preferably in a library or non-profit service setting. Strong writing and storytelling skills, particularly for donor communications and grant proposals. Comfortable using tools like Canva, Constant Contact, Facebook/Instagram, and Salesforce. Passion for public libraries, literacy, and community enrichment. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate with a small, dedicated team. Flexible schedule, with occasional evening or weekend hours for special events. Position involves both in-library and community-based work.
