Job Summary
In this role, you will perform daily work activities with general supervision. Responsibilities include computer-aided drafting to prepare maps, sketches, schematics and other engineering-related drawings, as well as associated clerical work to properly manage and document the activities performed in accordance with AEP requirements.

What You’ll Do
Innovative Drafting:
Utilize CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, PLS‑CADD) to prepare and maintain high‑quality maps, sketches, schematics, and engineering drawings.
Advanced Design Skills:
Demonstrate design expertise with a focus on quality and compliance, working under moderate supervision.
Collaborative Planning:
Coordinate daily work routines to ensure efficient production and contribute to overall project success.
Detailed Documentation:
Create, revise, and maintain comprehensive engineering records and material/property equipment documentation.
Effective Communication:
Gather essential information through field notes, vendor catalogs, and site visits to inform your work.
Mathematical Precision:
Perform necessary calculations to ensure accuracy in all assigned tasks.
Quality Assurance:
Review and check peer work to maintain the highest standards of accuracy and compliance with company methods.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration:
Work alongside various departments to ensure safety and efficiency in all operations.
Design Validation:
Assess designs for strength and conformity to accepted standards and integrate vendor specifications into your work.
Cost Management:
Prepare estimates and requisitions as needed, ensuring budget adherence.
Mentorship:
Provide guidance and training to junior employees, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Safety First:
Actively promote and participate in our Accident Prevention and Safety and Health programs.
Integrity and Compliance:
Uphold our corporate policies and demonstrate ethical behavior in all aspects of your work.
What We’re Looking For Associate degree in applied science (AAS) drafting and computer-aided design (CAD) or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology, with one (1) to two () years of relevant equivalent experience.
Work Experience (without AAS degree) – high school graduate with six (6) years of experience in electric utility and/or related industrial drafting and/or computer-aided drafting work.

Must be available to work overtime, as required.
Travel requirements: expected 10% and not greater than 50% of the time.
Must be familiar with conventional drafting symbols and methods, and able to distinguish colors.
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid state driver’s license.
Must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.
Occasional overnight travel to and work within a substation or power plant environment in accordance with safety regulations and use of PPE.
Physical Demand Sedentary – requires occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds.

Compensation $27/hr – $47/hr
