Instructor, Reading, Writing, and English (FT)
Join Portland Community College, the largest post‑secondary institution in Oregon, as a full‑time tenure‑track Instructor in the Reading, Writing, and English Program. PCC serves approximately 80,000 students across four comprehensive campuses and 200 community locations.

Program and Role
Successful candidates will teach the majority of their courses in the First‑Year Writing Program and may teach up to nine courses per year on PCC’s quarter system. Courses are offered in a variety of modalities; a majority will be fully in‑person.
Desired Specialties
Linguistic diversity, antiracist composition, rhetorical sovereignty, multilingual writers
Reflective writing, teaching for transfer, metacognition
Minimum Qualifications
MFA, MA or PhD in Rhetoric/Composition, English, or Literature, or an MA/PhD with a minimum of 30 graduate quarter credit‑hours in one or more of these fields.
At least four college‑level composition classes taught, or equivalent classroom experience through a mentoring or internship program.
Success Criteria
Disciplinary knowledge in Rhetoric & Composition
A teaching practice that acknowledges linguistic diversity, antiracist composition, rhetorical sovereignty, multilingual writers
Demonstrated skill at culturally responsive education
Experience working with students historically excluded or underserved by higher education
Demonstrated success with peer collaboration and leadership

Compensation and Benefits
Initial salary placement is between Step 1 ($73,911) and Step 3 ($78,408) based on experience, per PCC’s collective bargaining agreement. The highest step is Step 17 ($118,558). PCC also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement (PERS), and tuition waiver for employees and eligible family members.
