Position Title: Graduate Program Chair -- Library Media Specialist Program

Status: Non‑Tenure Track

Overview: St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students each year. Across its five schools it offers nearly 40 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing; 11 pre‑professional programs; and master’s and doctoral programs in business, nursing, education, pharmacy, and public health. The University’s residential campus boasts a robust living and learning community and a successful intercollegiate athletics program. The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education was created in 2003 and is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP). It is one of only 24 providers in New York state with CAEP accreditation. The School provides degree options at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels to prepare education professionals for certification in teaching, librarianship, and leadership careers from elementary through high school.

The School’s emphasis on social justice encourages graduates to engage students in learning, making lasting impacts on both individuals and the community. Through curriculum and experiential learning initiatives led by expert faculty and staff, students graduate as the educators, librarians, and leaders the world needs today.

In this role, the Library Media Specialist Program seeks a qualified candidate for a full‑time, 12‑month position (with possible renewal) as Graduate Program Chair and Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor depending on level of education.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and management for all of the program’s strategic initiatives and operations.
  • Teach in the program.
  • Report to the School of Education Dean.
  • Oversee curriculum and curricular change in consultation with faculty.
  • Engage in teaching and scholarship while aggressively pursuing recruitment expansion of the fully online program.
  • Oversee program revision leading to institutional and national recognition approval, and revise online syllabi, materials, and support structures.
  • Provide academic leadership in maintaining and developing high‑quality instructional programs.
  • Facilitate course scheduling and staffing.
  • Provide academic advising to students.
  • Oversee the program budget.
  • Organize and oversee practicums.
  • Work with Lavery Library/Curriculum Center to ensure material and service availability.
  • Develop and maintain NYC cohort partnerships.
  • Pursue CAEP accreditation for the program and oversee ongoing compliance.

Education / Experience:

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Library Science and Certified Library Media Specialist.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting candidates, managing applicant pipelines, creating partnerships, and coordinating marketing strategies for recruitment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the School of Education.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others and adapt to change.
  • Demonstrated skills in instructional technology and teaching in an online modality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D., Ed.D., or other terminal degree preferred or documented special competence in Library Science.
  • Expertise or K‑12 certifications and ability to teach in other curricular areas.
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence, research, advice, and service.

Supervision of Employees

  • Recruit, interview, and hire faculty members according to program needs.
  • Supervise, develop, and evaluate faculty.

Job Type: Full‑time

Work Hours: 12 month

FLSA: Exempt

Salary / Hourly Range: $71,500.00 - $84,000.00. The salary range for this role is set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, qualifications, experience, and education.
