The Department’s overarching mission is to foster broad inquiry within the visual arts and design to provide opportunities for students to study non‑western, diverse cultural artifacts and experiences. As the first public liberal arts institution founded for African Americans, NCCU occupies a special niche that informs the study of art and design. The Department celebrates the study of artistic productions of African and African American culture, emphasizing the past and present contributions of people of color. The curriculum educates students pursuing visual arts and design careers in today’s global society. Art and Design majors explore technology, engage in internships, pursue individuality and enjoy the fruits of cultural diversity.

Primary Purpose of Position The NCCU Department of Art and Design has an immediate need for adjunct faculty in Animation & Game Design. The ideal candidate(s) will have a master’s degree, professional experience, and a passion for teaching. These adjunct professors will prepare students for careers in the field through in‑person lecture or computer‑based learning, critiques, and exposure to traditional and cutting‑edge creative approaches.

In the Spring 2026 semester, the selected adjunct(s) will be responsible for instruction in one or both of the following courses:

ARTV 3450 – Level Design (3 credits)

Students explore the art and methodology of level design, focusing on industry‑standard tools, workflows, and design principles used in RPGs, console games, and modern interactive worlds.

ARTV 4520 – Team Production (3 credits)

A capstone‑style experience for Animation and Interactive Media students. This course simulates real studio production—students collaborate to create a video game, animated short, or interactive experience using professional pipelines.

Opportunities to teach may be available in future semesters. Course options, availability and schedules can vary each semester.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities We seek accomplished art and design educators who can bring professional expertise and creative vision into the classroom. The ideal candidate will hold an advanced degree such as a MA or MFA in the field.

Deliver high‑quality instruction in assigned course(s) following departmental curriculum and learning outcomes.

Deliver engaging, industry‑informed instruction using lectures, demonstrations, critiques, and hands‑on project guidance.

Provide clear guidance on workflows related to game engines, level design tools, animation pipelines, and production processes.

Studio and computer‑based professors need a strong creative portfolio reflecting conceptual depth, aesthetic refinement, and technical skill across a range of projects. Strong letters of reference will validate the candidate’s teaching excellence and ability to inspire students.

The ideal candidate will hold a Master’s degree in the field.
