Position: INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC TEACHER (4-12) - SCHOOL YEAR 2026-2027.
Location: To Be Determined.
Reports to: School Principal.
Position Summary : Under the direction of the school principal, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. To ensure student success, provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals. Supervises students in a variety of school‑related settings, monitors and evaluates student outcomes, and communicates with students, parents, staff, and the community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students, maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices, and monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
Education, Certification and Experience : At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:
A Maryland Professional Eligibility Certificate, Standard Professional Certificate or Advanced Professional Certificate in the appropriate field of education; or
A Maryland Conditional Degree Certificate as outlined in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR).

Essential Job Functions, Responsibilities, and Duties :
Creates a classroom environment that makes space for student voice, student agency, and is intellectually and socially safe for learning.
Develops classroom routines and rituals to support a culture of learning and utilizes a balance of proactive evidence‑based strategies to manage conflict and redirect negative behavior.
Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Plans and prepares lessons individually and collaboratively aligned with Calvert County curricula that outline clear learning goals, assignments, and instructional materials that promote physical, mental, and social development.
Incorporates research‑based strategies, evidence‑based practices, and instructional technology within the learning process.
Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials aligned with Calvert County curricula that meet the needs of every student regardless of background, ability, or socio‑economic status.
Monitors and evaluates student progress and outcomes using feedback and appropriate formative and summative assessment techniques.
Prepares, administers, and corrects evaluations and assessments, and records results.
Improves skill and knowledge base in current trends, research, and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, cultural responsiveness, problem solving, and interdisciplinary connections.
Plans purposeful assignments for instructional assistants and volunteers.
Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community.
Confers with parents and students regarding academic, social‑emotional, and behavioral progress of assigned students; arranges and participates in teacher‑parent or teacher‑student conferences as necessary.
Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and professional learning sessions.
Supervises students in a variety of school‐related settings.
Serves on special committees.
Attends special events such as open house and registration nights.
Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.
Works flexible hours as necessary.
Works under stress and meets all deadlines.
Maintains regular, on‑time attendance.
Other Duties : Performs related work as required or assigned by the school principal or designee. The position includes an Extra Duty Extra Pay contract and stipend.
Physical Demands : The position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.
Unusual Demands : May be subject to a flexible work schedule.
FLSA Status : Exempt.
Terms of Employment : Ten (10) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools salary schedule for teachers. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit. The candidate shall receive an Extra Duty Extra Pay stipend(s) for designated assignment(s) pertinent to the educational level.
Evaluation : Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by Calvert County Public Schools.
Effective Date of Position : 2026–2027 school year.
