Hart Energy is seeking a curious, detail-oriented, and digitally savvy

Reporter

for Technology & Innovation to join our Houston-based editorial team. This position is ideal for a journalist with a passion for emerging energy technologies—from upstream oilfield innovations to breakthroughs in carbon capture, hydrogen, and wind/solar integration.

You will cover a range of stories spanning drilling technologies, production optimization, automation, AI and data analytics in energy, clean tech integration, renewables, and more. This role plays a key part in shaping how Hart Energy informs and influences the future of energy innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Research, report, and write compelling articles on oil and gas technology, renewable energy innovation, digital transformation, and startup ecosystems in energy.

Conduct interviews with engineers, executives such as chief technology officers, and researchers across oil & gas and renewable sectors.

Collaborate with the Senior Technical Editor to align editorial priorities with industry trends.

Monitor key conferences (SPE, OTC, CERAWeek, etc.) and provide event coverage.

Generate ideas for feature stories, Q&As, explainer pieces, and data-assisted reporting.

Work closely with digital producers to publish and optimize articles for HartEnergy.com.

Help build out multimedia storytelling opportunities (podcasts, infographics, video scripts).

Support the editorial team in updating and managing the Technology & Innovation section online.

Qualifications

2+ years of experience in journalism or B2B media (energy or tech focus preferred).

Exceptional writing, editing, and interviewing skills.

Ability to translate complex engineering topics into accessible, engaging content.

Strong digital publishing familiarity (WordPress, SEO basics, analytics tools).

Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field.

Ability to work 4 days/week in our Houston newsroom.

Preferred

Background in energy journalism, oilfield services reporting, or cleantech coverage.

Knowledge of shale technologies, offshore systems, or renewables and innovation.

Familiarity with industry players such as Halliburton, Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, Siemens Energy and established renewable and emerging tech startups.

This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Pay Transparency Disclosure The estimated base salary range for this position is $50,000 - $70,000. The final salary offering will take into account experience, accomplishments, and location. In addition to base salary, we offer a competitive retirement plan and benefits.
