Junior Mechanical Assembler (Newport News, VA)

Join a dynamic team supporting the U.S. Navy by fabricating and assembling electromechanical and electronic assemblies on U.S. Naval Ships and installations.

Responsibilities

  • Follow blueprints, guidelines, or diagrams to fabricate and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies.
  • Perform work using standard field concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Plan and accomplish goals using experience and judgment.
  • Work aboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in environments that may be uncomfortable, noisy, with temperature variations, and where carelessness could cause injury.

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Eligibility for access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), background investigation, and drug screening.
  • Firewatch and Cable Installer certifications.
  • 2 years of shipboard experience.
  • 2 years of combined experience in:
    • Bolt/unbolt cableways, deck plates & equipment
    • Drill holes (with supervision)
    • Operate light machinery/equipment (with training)
    • Position, join, align, wrap & seal pipe & conduit sections
    • Follow directions of senior employees
    • Carry equipment & clean spaces
    • Remove lagging & paint
  • Identify safety concerns in the immediate work environment.
  • Sound technical knowledge base of discipline’s standard concepts, principles, and techniques.
  • Work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds (80% of work requires carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 40 pounds).
  • Travel up to 10% to various work sites.
  • Work independently, in a team environment, and under stressful conditions with tight deadlines.
  • Work in Newport News, VA.

Additional Desired Experience

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • OSHA Certification
