Position Title: Library Assistant
Department: Seth Wilson Library
Reports to: Director of the Seth Wilson Library
The mission of the Seth Wilson Library is to provide quality resources and services to facilitate lifelong learning and research for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the wider community. Institutional Goals supported by Department: IG 2, 3, 4
*This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and will be required to participate in CSA training, and is required to immediately forward all reports of Clery Act crimes brought to their attention to the Clery Compliance Officer.
A. Summary
The Library Assistant supports the director and librarians of the Seth Wilson Library in accomplishing the mission and goals of the department. This position serves by helping develop and maintain efficient office operations and completing coordinated projects.
B. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Library Services (75%)
Executes marketing services in collaboration with the director and librarians, including social media management, the printing of promotional or other library materials, and other design needs for the library.
Assists in the collection and input of various data for the development of the library.
Supports student engagement and library programming through collaboration with the Access Services Librarian, such as facility decoration and displays.
Contributes to identifying, planning, coordinating, and executing various library projects and services with the director and librarians.
Office Coordination (20%)
Oversees the library department calendar.
Leads office management of the library facility, such as copier or printer paper, watering plants, general cleanliness, office and breakroom supplies, etc.
Liaises with other relevant college departments regarding library services, policies, information, and facility use.
Other (5%)
Supports the circulation desk and library clerks as needed.
Other job duties as assigned or requested.

Strong organizational and relational skills.
Collaborative team spirit; ability to function as a team member and a team leader.
Excellent customer service skills to be modeled for student library clerks.
Positive, innovative, and solution-focused attitude when approaching problems.
Proficient with computers and electronic access technologies, and have the ability to learn how to effectively use various kinds of software and hardware.
Strong detail orientation and organizational skills, specifically toward data collection, input, analysis, and running reports in various programming styles.
Ability to connect library work to ministry service and express that to student clerks, faculty, staff, and community patrons.
D. Supervision
This position has no supervisory expectation.
E. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
Office management background required; supervisor experience preferred.
F. Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position primarily functions indoors.
The ability to climb stairs, push carts of materials, and reach the top and bottom shelves of book stacks to place library resources is required.
Occasionally lift boxes weighing up to fifty pounds; modification may be available.
Visual acuity and accuracy are necessary to manage details and numbers.
In addition to meetings in various buildings, there is an expectation to participate in the weekly chapel service and the Friday Faculty and Staff Lunch if working during daytime office hours, all of which require the ability to traverse the college campus.
