The Open Home Foundation is looking for a Marketing Designer based in Europe to join our Marketing team. This team is responsible for connecting the foundation's projects, such as Home Assistant and ESPHome, with the people who benefit from them most: users, contributors, and partners. By making it easier for people to discover, use, and get involved with our projects, the Open Home ecosystem can grow in a way that's aligned with our values.

What You Are Going To Do

Work on a wide range of content projects (including website, blog, guides and tutorials, social media, newsletters, video and animations, presentations, events, and merchandise).

Transform each content concept into high‑quality visuals that grab attention and engage our target audience.

Interpret technical information and create compelling visuals to explain and support it.

Help evolve and maintain our visual identity across all marketing channels.

Work together with the entire creative team (designers, copywriters, and web developers) to ensure content projects are cohesive and properly reflect brand identity and design guidelines.

Participate in creative reviews and iterate on feedback with an open, collaborative mindset.

What You Need To Have

A keen eye for aesthetics and details.

Prior experience working as a graphic designer.

A strong portfolio of design work across various marketing channels.

Proficiency in design tools like Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.

Understanding of design systems, branding principles, and responsive design.

Comfortable designing within constraints and iterating based on team feedback.

Professional fluency in English: excellent written and verbal communication skills.

European residency: you must be currently based and eligible to work within Europe.

It would be great if you also have

Familiarity with open source culture.

Experience designing for open source, developer, or tech communities.

A passion for smart homes and automation.

Experience as a Home Assistant user.

What we offer You The Open Home Foundation is a fully remote organization that employs people from all over the world. You will be a normal salaried employee in your country.

This is a full‑time position for 40 hours per week. Because we are fully remote, there is no fixed schedule; we aim for at least 3 hours of overlap in the workday. You will report to the Marketing Lead, based in the Netherlands.

Core to the establishment of the Open Home Foundation was the well‑being of the people building the future of the smart home. We provide all the benefits required by the country you reside in, and we ensure at least a minimal set of benefits:

Five weeks (twenty‑five days) of paid time off.

Fourteen days of paid sick leave if your country/laws treat them as unpaid.

Six weeks of paid and six weeks of unpaid parental leave to be used in the first year after birth; we cover shortfall if local law does not provide this.

A budget for your work hardware when you start; after three years you may keep it for personal use.

A monthly smart‑home budget to keep you up‑to‑date with what smart homes offer.

A 50% contribution to your internet connection fee at your home workspace.

If you are currently working on Home Assistant‑related side projects, you can spend work time maintaining them.

We aim to provide a total compensation package that matches the 75th percentile for the role, seniority, and local market rates. Annual compensation ranges by country:

Netherlands: 50,000 – 60,000 EUR

UK: 43,000 – 58,000 GBP

Spain: 40,000 – 52,000 EUR

Portugal: 38,000 – 51,000 EUR

Other countries: compensation can be discussed during the first interview.
