Position Summary As a signage designer, you will produce conceptual drawings for exterior signage (freestanding, wall-mounted, illuminated, non-illuminated) and interior signage (dimensional logos/letters, ADA signage, POP displays, tradeshow/exhibit spaces). Designs will support our estimating, project management, engineering, and production teams.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Based on customer-supplied content and message schedules create layouts, proofs, permit drawings, and production files.
Generate and revise drawings and/or documentation related to signs as required.
Function in a prepress role to produce production-ready art, vinyl, and CAD router files for shop releases and to exchange files between various design programs.
Coordinate with all aspects of sign‑making process to meet internal and external deadlines and take a leading role in driving production.
Qualifications
Experience with Omega Composer, FlexiSign, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite or comparable industry programs.
Understanding of illuminated signage electrical systems enough to design and proof illuminated signage projects.
Understanding of structural design and assembly mechanics of dimensional, architectural, and illuminated signage.
Ability to interpret signage requirements from architectural drawings, blueprints, and technical specification documents and create drawings from sketches, measurements, marked‑up prints, and technical surveys.
Ability to import and export file types to and from various graphics and production programs.
Detail-oriented, organized, capable of handling multiple projects.
Excellent organizational, management, and communication skills (written, verbal, listening).
Experience with SketchUp/AutoCAD helpful but not required.
Experience with signage and electrical permitting requirements, especially in Maryland, helpful.
Experience with ADA standards a plus.
Work independently with or without supervision.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
Signage or illuminated & fabricated signage/constructional engineering experience required.
Computer Skills
Solid understanding of computers, data entry, internet searches, Microsoft Office suite, and email applications.
Experience with ERP System a plus.
Other Qualifications
Ability to pass a background check.
Ability to write effective correspondence to customers and coworkers.
Vision abilities: see clearly at 20 inches or less, distinguish colors, adjust focus.
Mathematical abilities: read a ruler, calculate simple costs, basic math skills.
