Job Responsibilities
Operates heavy motorized equipment on the Drainage Crew such as Backhoe, Dozer, Crawler, Excavator, Lowboy Truck Tractor, Motor Grader, Road Patcher, Truck Mounted, Slope Mower, and Tractor with Ditcher. Supports foreman in daily safe work practices (flagging operations, PPE, vehicle safety CDL, hazardous material waste, etc.). Assists the crew leader in highway maintenance duties, compiles daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports, trains subordinates, and coordinates traffic control device placement per SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual. Participates in inclement weather, on‑call, after‑hours emergencies, snow and ice, Hurricane Lane Reversal Plan, and may operate medium and heavy equipment during extended working hours or 12‑hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements One (1) year of related work experience or equivalent. Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement. Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
Physical Requirements Must handle bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and manipulating objects up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods on rough and uneven terrain, working near traffic, in all weather conditions, exposed to noise and oil/grease.
