Film Production Specialist I

Overview

The Film Production Specialist I provides technological instructional support and production services to the students and faculty of the Film BA, BFA, and MFA degree programs. The role partners with the Broadcast Production Specialist III to foster a student‑centered learning environment supporting film production.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct training workshops to ensure safe use and proper operation of production equipment and facilities.
  • Provide direct end‑user technology support to students and faculty regarding film/video cameras, sound gear, lighting and grip equipment, post‑production workstations, and media workflows.
  • Assist with day‑to‑day operations of the Film Equipment Room.
  • Lead student workers and OPS staff in marshaling equipment and facilities for student‑facing media assignments, creative projects, instruction, and program events.
  • Monitor productions on sound stage, including evenings and weekends during production seasons, and provide hands‑on instruction when appropriate.
  • Enforce safety protocols on all student productions involving advanced lighting, grip, electrical distribution, overhead rigging, lift operation, power tools, set building, and painting.
  • Install, maintain, and repair production, A/V, and computer equipment owned by the Film program.
  • Inspect, clean, and organize facilities; recommend improvements and report concerns to supervisor.
  • Design supplemental instructional materials and consult with faculty and supervisor to align efforts with course learning outcomes and professional standards.
  • Contribute content to the program's production services website.
  • Support other duties and expectations assigned by the Nicholson School of Communication and Media.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 0+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a professional film, television, or other media production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of digital cinema cameras and accessories, camera movement equipment (dollies, jibs, gimbals), digital sound recorders and accessories, lighting and grip equipment, overhead rigging, lift operation, and/or digital media workflows.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Experience with inventory practices and applications.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in film and/or television production or a related field.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to oversee student productions on the main campus and UCF Downtown sound stages.
  • Experience working in a higher education or academic environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
