Job Overview

We’re looking for a senior, design‑driven front‑end engineer to own the next evolution of LABI’s interface. This is a product + UX + front‑end engineering role for someone who thinks deeply about interaction models, visual hierarchy, user flow, and how people make sense of complex data. You’ll be responsible for translating ambiguous scientific concepts into intuitive, interactive, and polished product surfaces. You’ll partner closely with our Head of Engineering to integrate with backend systems, but your primary superpower should be UI/UX craft and bringing product vision to life through clean, production‑quality front‑end code.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of LABI’s front‑end experience
• Translate complex biotech/AI concepts into clear, elegant UI/UX flows
• Design wireframes, prototypes, and visual systems (Figma or equivalent)
• Build production‑ready front‑end components (React / Next.js / TypeScript)
• Create data visualizations and interactive interfaces for networked biotech data
• Collaborate with backend engineering to integrate APIs and schemas
• Maintain and evolve LABI’s design system and visual language
• Own usability: instrument feedback loops and iterate quickly based on user needs

Requirements

• 4–7+ years of professional experience in front‑end engineering (React, Next.js, TypeScript)
• Demonstrated UI/UX skill — strong design instincts and proficiency with Figma
• Portfolio required, showing shipped interfaces you both designed and built
• Ability to create polished, intuitive interaction models from ambiguous requirements
• Experience working closely with backend teams and integrating complex APIs
• Strong systems thinking: visual hierarchy, layout, navigation, and interaction patterns
• Experience building data‑rich applications (dashboards, visual explorers, etc.)
• Familiarity with graph visualization or network‑based data interfaces
• Bonus: experience with data visualization (graphs, networks, tables, dashboards)
• Bonus: experience with custom data visualizations (D3, Cytoscape, Graphin, Recharts, etc.)
• Potential to transition into a full‑time position
• NYC Hybrid preferred, open to remote for the right person
• Competitive hourly rate or project‑based contract
