Job Summary/Basic Function
The Disability Services Office is looking for a dependable Captioning Specialist. This position works with a team to make videos or audio recordings accessible for all students. The primary responsibilities of the position are as follows: • Provide captions (subtitles) in English using specialized captioning software. • Review course videos and other media to ensure accurate and complete captions are embedded. • Add or edit captions when needed. • Ensure that background noises, auditory cues, and speaker identification are included in the edited captions. • Capture, store and retrieve videos, audio or other information. • Operate computerized captioning system. • Follow WCAG 2.1 Captioning Guidelines.
This position must maintain student confidentiality in compliance with FERPA.
**This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time, the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.
Required Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent. • Computer proficient. • Ability to work independently or with little supervision, reliable, and able to complete work within time constraints.
Preferred Qualifications • Strong typing skills (50-60 WPM) • English proficient, spelling, and proper use of grammar and punctuation. • One year college experience or similar related experience. • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) • Work study eligible.
