Employment Type:
Hourly project-based contract work Hourly rate:

Our client is a fast-growing, Tampa-born fishing apparel brand launched three years ago and built for people who live on the water. They are ready to start a new womenswear line that elevates what the current market offers. They are seeking an experienced
Apparel Designer
with a focus on
women's performance and activewear
to help shape the future of our women's fishing category. About the Role
You will partner closely with the founder to translate her vision and ideas into
clear, production-ready design mockups
and
technical packages
for women's fishing apparel. Their goal is to build a collection that blends the functionality of performance fishing gear with the flattering fits and aesthetic of modern activewear.
Think
"Lululemon meets technical fishing apparel" : performance fabrics, smart details, and sun protection combined with silhouettes that feel elevated, feminine, and wearable on and off the boat.
What You'll Design
You will develop concepts and mockups for:
• Functional women's fishing tops and bottoms designed for women who are active on the water (technical, performance-oriented, protective). • Elevated women's styles that prioritize style and versatility while still nodding to the fishing and coastal lifestyle. • Longer-term categories such as dresses, cover-ups, and swim/bathing suits that align with the brand's fishing and resort aesthetic.
Key Responsibilities
• Translate founder concepts and feedback into
design sketches, detailed mockups, and tech-ready artwork . • Build out and refine
womenswear templates
for tops, bottoms, outerwear, and future categories. • Select and propose
appropriate performance materials
for fishing and on-the-water use (e.g., quick-dry, UPF, stretch, moisture-wicking). • Develop
color, print, and graphic directions
suited to a modern, coastal, and fishing lifestyle brand. • Create
clear specifications and details
that can be handed off to manufacturing and production partners. • Iterate quickly based on feedback to refine fit, functionality, and aesthetic.
What We're Looking For
• Strong background in
women's activewear, performance wear, or outdoor/sport apparel design . • Ability to design for both
high-function
(technical fishing use) and
high-style
(elevated, lifestyle-driven) womenswear. • Experience creating
design mockups and tech packs
that translate smoothly into production. • Comfort working with
performance and technical fabrics , ideally for sun, water, or outdoor environments. • An understanding of fit and functionality for women in active settings, including on the water, boating, or fishing. • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate directly with a founder/creative lead. • Freelance/contract flexibility and availability to align with
East Coast
working hours.
How to Apply
If you're an apparel designer who loves combining performance, style, and the outdoors, we'd like to hear from you.
Please share:
• Your resume or a brief background summary. • A portfolio highlighting
women's activewear, performance, outdoor, or fishing-related designs . • Your availability and typical freelance/contract rates.
