ED Communication Specialist Full Time Days

Job Summary
The Communication Specialist will staff the Communication Center in the emergency department at Detroit Receiving Hospital. The Communication Center is located in the emergency department at Detroit Receiving Hospital. It centralizes and streamlines communication between DMC hospital sites and the surrounding area. The center houses all outside communication equipment used to receive notifications of critical patient transports, disasters, or mass casualty events. It also accommodates the Personal Computer‑Based Emergency Management (EM) System utilized during a major incident in Michigan to track patient movement from the scene to the hospital. The goal is to expedite incoming patient transfers from external facilities and communicate the patient’s condition to the ED staff prior to arrival.
Job Duties
Expedites and coordinates all transfers from external facilities.
Coordinates and activates STEMI process, stroke team notification, major communicable disease response team, chempack team, decontamination team, and all communications from outside agencies regarding acts of bioterrorism/decontamination/code yellow; activates trauma pager.
Handles operations of all communication equipment used to receive notification of critical patient transports, disasters, or mass casualty events, including HEAR radio, Region 2 South 800 MHz HEMS radio, life‑net RS‑12‑lead receiving stations, care‑point receiving monitor, UHF receiving station, telemetry, EM TRAX, and EMResource.
Maintains appropriate log sheets and data.
Attends appropriate trauma systems monthly meetings.
Provides telemetry response.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School graduation or equivalent.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
State of Michigan license for Emergency Medical Technician.
One or two years experience as EMT preferred.
Dispatch certification recommended (not required).
