Allied Fire Protection
Job Description
Design and layout sprinkler systems using specialized CAD software packages based on the AutoCAD platform.
Coordinate sprinkler system piping with other building components and perform hydraulic calculations.
Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
Interpret and apply applicable NFPA standards to the design and/or layout of the sprinkler systems according to building type, construction type, hazard classification, and architectural features.
Perform field checks of completed designs to verify accuracy, if required.
Work closely with the Estimation department, Design Manager, and Operations Manager to review the scope sheet and project requirements.
Coordinate projects to meet delivery dates.
Communicate with AHJs, contractors, and other trades.
Coordinate with team members for listing required materials.
Coordinate with team members for permitting and inspection requirements.
Actively participate in predesign and review meetings.
Identify opportunities for cost‑saving measures and quality improvements.
Adhere to company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe and professional workplace.
Provide outstanding customer service.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge
High School diploma or GED is required.
Must have experience designing fire sprinkler systems.
NICET Level I–IV certification is preferred.
Work Experience
Minimum 5+ years of fire protection design experience or a Fire Sprinkler Design degree.
Skills And Competencies
Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; HydraCAD is preferred.
Visualize 3D concepts and solve basic math problems, including geometry and algebra.
Proficient in interpreting and applying applicable NFPA standards and reading construction documents.
Must obtain and retain licenses required by national, state/province, and local codes.
Experience with a variety of system types and manufacturers.
Strong knowledge of industry codes such as IFC, NFPA, IBC, and NEC.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.
Maintain accurate and auditable records.
Work effectively in a fast‑paced service/construction team environment.
Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to travel as needed.
Physical Requirements
100% office setting, including sitting, some bending, lifting, walking, and viewing.
