KOMO/KUNS are seeking a detail oriented, aggressive, energetic, and creative full-time News Assignment Editor!

The hourly compensation range for this role is $32.00 to $35.62. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, quarterly and annual incentive plan bonuses, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, 15 paid vacation days, 2 paid personal days, 9 paid holidays, 40 hours of paid sick leave, parental leave, and employee stock purchase plan.

KOMO/KUNS are seeking a detail oriented, aggressive, energetic, and creative full-time News Assignment Editor!
Core Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily editorial planning across broadcast, digital, streaming, and social platforms.
- Monitor breaking news andtrending topics to identify coverage opportunities.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of information distributed across all platforms.
- Work closely with digital, broadcast, and social team to adapt stories appropriately for each channel.
- Maintain communication with field crews, assignment editors, producers, and managers throughout the day.
- Vet and verify information from scanners, social media, and community sources.
- Liaise with external partners (public information officers, agencies, community leaders, networks, other stations, and freelancers).
- Oversee logistics such as crew scheduling, equipment deployment, and live coverage coordination.
- Contribute editorial judgment during breaking news and high-pressure situations.
- Uphold ethical standards, legal requirements, and organizational editorial policies.
- Perform website updates in breaking news situations
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Strong multiplatform editorial skills, including understanding of broadcast, digital newswriting, and social media best practices.
- Exceptional news judgment and the ability to prioritize in a fast-moving, deadline-driven environment.
- Proficiency with newsroom tools, such as iNews, analytics dashboards, and social media monitoring tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask across multiple storylines, teams, and technology platforms.
- Strong fact-checking and verification skills with understanding of journalistic ethics.
- Comfort with breaking news workflows, including managing live shots, field crews, and rapid updates.
