Function / Position Summary
To support all curricular areas for student learning, reading, and instruction and provide information literacy instruction.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Teach the district-approved library and information literacy curriculum.
- Collaborate with teachers in teaching and assessing how all students utilize information resources.
- Expose students to a variety of literature and promote a culture of reading in the school community.
- Promote the integrated use of technology and other resources as learning tools.
- Provide individual students and staff with reader services and information literacy resources at the moment of need.
- Administer the library and collection to include collection development (selection and de-selection), cataloging and processing, and circulation of materials.
- Manage and maintain the library facility to meet instructional goals.
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility in managing budget allocations for building, district and grant funding.
- Prepare appropriate curricular materials for classroom instruction.
- Participate in the U-46 community to include sharing resources and policy development in implementing the district approved curriculum.
- Provide leadership in current best practices and awareness of district curriculum.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in related subject from accredited university.
- Illinois Professional Educators License (PEL) with a Library/Media endorsement at appropriate grade level required.
- Teaching experience is preferred but not necessary for hiring.
- Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.
- Knowledge of information literacy and curriculum.
- Familiarity with a wide range of reading materials and resources for students.
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and instructional skills.
- Knowledge of MARC records and cataloging standards.
- Understanding of standard library ordering and budgeting procedures.
- Awareness of collection development practices.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. with proper technique
- This is a nine (9) month ETA position (184 work days)
