The Indianapolis Star, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a college student or recent graduate with a talent for video and photojournalism to join our award-winning visuals staff for an exciting and demanding spring fellowship.

The fellow will work 40 hours per week, covering a full range of assignments including news, sports and features. There will also be opportunities to work on long-term projects, photo pages and documentary videos. Night and weekend shifts will be required.

We are looking for someone who is highly driven and eager to generate story ideas. The right candidate will be a sponge, ready to absorb knowledge from this veteran staff.

  • You'll get paid, too. Fellows earn $720/week ($18/hr) for the 20-week spring program.

Am I qualified for this journalism program?
  • Recent graduates and college juniors, seniors and graduate students enrolled in a journalism or related degree program as of Nov. 1, 2025, are eligible.
  • Experience in a previous newspaper journalism internship and/or at a college newspaper is required.
  • You need to be committed to a career in news journalism. You must have reliable transportation and arrange for your own housing. We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity among its journalism fellows.
What's the deadline for this fellowship application?
  • All application materials must be submitted by Nov. 28, 2025, but applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis so candidates are encouraged to apply now.
When should I be there?
  • Dates are flexible, but expect the 20-week fellowship to run from January 2026 through the end of May 2026, capping off the term as part of the team covering the Indy 500.
