About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a youth-centered nonprofit dedicated to supporting students ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, we create safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to grow, thrive, and succeed. We believe every child deserves a promise kept — and we work every day to make that promise real.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Volunteer Video Editor to join our growing communications and content team. In this role, you will help shape MAP’s digital voice across multiple platforms by producing engaging, high-quality video and audio content. Your work will directly support our mission of empowering youth and mentors by creating content that informs, inspires, and connects our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit short-form vertical videos for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and TikTok
  • Produce and edit weekly podcast episodes (video and audio), ensuring pacing, visuals, and sound quality are polished
  • Manage YouTube uploads via YouTube Studio, including titles, descriptions, tags, thumbnails, and optimization
  • Maintain consistent branding, audio-visual quality, and storytelling tone across all content
  • Collaborate with communications, marketing, and education teams to align messaging with organizational goals

Requirements

  • Proficiency with video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar)
  • Basic audio editing skills (Audacity, Adobe Audition, or similar)
  • Experience editing for multiple formats, especially short-form and long-form podcasts
  • Familiarity with YouTube Studio and publishing best practices
  • Strong eye for visual storytelling, pacing, and brand tone
  • Ability to work independently and meet weekly deadlines

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in nonprofit storytelling or mission-driven content
  • Understanding of social media trends and optimization strategies
  • Motion graphics or animation skills (a plus but not required)

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience producing digital content for a mission-driven nonprofit
  • A chance to showcase your creativity across social, podcast, and video platforms
  • Collaboration with a passionate and supportive team
  • Portfolio projects that highlight both technical skills and social impact
  • Letters of recommendation and professional references for future opportunities
