Trinity School, a coeducational, K-12 institution located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, seeks a Lower School Librarian, beginning September 2020.
Reporting to the Director of Libraries, the Lower School Librarian serves as the main point of contact for Lower School students, faculty, staff, and families in their interactions with the library. They advocate for the needs of Lower School library users within both the library department and the larger school community.
To that end, the librarian must create an environment where collaboration and creative problem solving thrive. It is expected that the librarian will participate fully in the life of the Lower School and that they will pursue professional growth opportunities and remain current in their knowledge of professional practices, developmental needs of users, and age-appropriate literature and resources
An MLS or MSLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library school is required.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborates with Lower School faculty to support the needs of the curriculum and to design and implement learning experiences that incorporate multiple literacies and foster critical thinking
- Promotes resources to support teaching and learning through timely communication with and professional development opportunities for faculty and staff
- Provides reader’s advisory and reference assistance to Lower School students, faculty, staff, and families
- Develops and maintains a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, learners, teaching styles, and instructional strategies within the school community
- Plans and implements meaningful experiences for the Lower School community that foster a love of books and reading
- Leads the implementation of the information literacy and literature appreciation curriculum in the Lower School, coordinating with the other division librarians as needed
- Creates and maintains a library environment that is inviting, welcoming, and safe
- Works to ensure the library collections, both print and digital, are organized for maximum and effective use
- Establishes processes and procedures that assure appropriate staff, resources, and facilities are available when needed
- Carries out administrative and clerical tasks necessary to the smooth functioning of the library program
- Organizes, trains, and supervises parent volunteers
- In conjunction with the Director of Libraries, prepares, justifies, and administers the Lower School library budget to support specific program goals
- Uses evidence-based reflection to articulate and plan program goals
