Job Description:

Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia's capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reynolds seeks a Student Success Librarian to provide daytime research assistance to students, faculty, staff and community members; collaborate with faculty to provide targeted resources for students through information literacy initiatives & outreach; participate in collection development including purchase recommendations and de-selection/weeding; and assist with special projects as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver personalized research assistance in person, via email, and through virtual platforms, utilizing library databases, open web resources, citation tools, and educational applications.
  • Design and facilitate information literacy instruction, including workshops, classroom sessions, and interactive activities such as scavenger hunts, both on-site and via Zoom.
  • Serve as an embedded librarian within Canvas, the college's learning management system, offering integrated academic support and resource guidance.
  • Develop and maintain instructional and promotional materials, including research guides, handouts, worksheets, blog posts, and marketing content tailored to student and faculty needs.
  • Support curriculum development by managing library collections:
    • Recommend acquisitions of books, periodicals, and databases
    • Conduct regular weeding of outdated or underused materials
  • Provide technical assistance to library users in the use of Microsoft Office, Canvas LMS, and the PaperCut printing system.
  • Execute special projects and initiatives as assigned to support library operations and strategic goals.
Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to provide high-quality, responsive research assistance in-person and online.
  • Skill in developing and delivering information literacy instruction.
  • Ability to create instructional and promotional materials for library users.
  • Proficiency in maintaining and developing library collections to support academic programs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with diverse populations.
  • Ability to provide basic technology and database support to patrons.
  • Commitment to teamwork and customer service excellence.
Education and Training:
  • Required: Master's degree in Information and Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.
Experience:
  • Required: At least one year of experience working in a library setting.
  • Preferred: At least one year of experience as an academic librarian. Experience using Canvas, Zoom, LibGuides, and LibAnswers preferred.
