Position Overview
The AUC Libraries are seeking dedicated and knowledgeable Academic Library Tutors to provide high-impact academic support to students during midterms and finals. This temporary role is ideal for graduate students, advanced undergraduates, or recent alumni with intense research, writing, and study skills who are passionate about helping others succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in research strategies, citation management, academic writing, and study skills.
- Assist students with locating and evaluating scholarly resources using library databases and tools.
- Support students in understanding assignment requirements and developing practical research questions.
- Offer guidance on proper citation formats (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.) and avoiding plagiarism.
- Collaborate with library staff to identify high-demand subjects and schedule tutoring sessions accordingly.
- Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student feedback.
- Participate in brief training and orientation before midterms/finals.
- Current AUC student (junior/senior undergraduate or graduate level) or recent graduate preferred.
- Strong academic background in humanities, social sciences, STEM, or business.
- Familiarity with academic research tools and citation styles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
- Prior tutoring, mentoring, or teaching experience is a plus.
- Tutors will work up to 32 hours total during midterms and finals weeks.
- Flexible scheduling available, including evenings and weekends.
- All tutoring will take place in designated library spaces or virtually via approved platforms.
