The Department of Humanities and Media Studies at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, seeks an Assistant Professor dedicated to strengthening our department's contribution to Pratt's General Education program in the area of Literary and Critical Studies. This is a ten-month, tenure-track position. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to teaching in our Humanities Core (first- year courses that emphasize writing, research, and communication skills in an arts/design context) and developing electives in literary and critical studies. This faculty member should be qualified to take up leadership responsibilities connected to the Humanities Core program.
The candidate must demonstrate the ability to teach writing, literary, and critical studies with an awareness of current theoretical approaches in the field and a sensitivity to teaching humanities within an institution dedicated to architecture, art, and design education. Engagement with current debates involving writing pedagogy in relation to AI, new technologies, and communication is a plus.

- Along with other full-time faculty in the department, maintain a full-time load of 12 contact hours per semester (including 9 hours of teaching, plus research and service) with a majority of teaching in the Humanities Core.
- Demonstrate and maintain a substantial program of academic and/or creative excellence that contributes to a discipline or academic field at a national or international level in Literary and/or Critical Studies.
- Participate in curriculum development and assessment of student learning.
- Participate in committee work and other service appropriate to the Department, School and Institute and profession.
Education:
Candidates should have a terminal degree. An M.F.A. or Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant discipline is required.
Experience:
- At least three years of teaching in a college or university. Demonstrated experience teaching in General Education, First-Year Writing, or comparable programs is preferred.
- Demonstrated alignment of your research, scholarship, and work with the values of Pratt and the ability to communicate well with diverse populations.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
