Summary:

This position is a 9-month, faculty position in the Music Program in the Visual, Performing and Communication Arts Department (VPCA) in the College of Education, Humanities, and Behavioral Sciences (CEHBS). The successful candidate will be expected to work primarily at the PhD and master's levels, as needed at the undergraduate level, and be able to work closely with other programs within the college. In addition, they will work with the Music Coordinator on assessment, curriculum, and help with the acquiring of NASM. This role will contribute to the development of the music program through innovative teaching, research, performance. The rank and tenure-status of position is negotiable based on qualifications.
Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for teaching PhD courses of the music education specialization in the Curriculum & Instruction Program,
  • As needed: Responsible for teaching master's and undergraduate level courses in music education within the Teacher Education & Leadership Program, applied instrument, and music appreciation courses
  • Dissertation and research mentoring for the PhD students
  • Responsible for student advising, recruiting and participation in program building, and committee work at the department, college, and university level.
  • Be actively involved in scholarly activity/creative works.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications

Minimum Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc).
  • PhD in Music Education or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment and
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring graduate students for dissertation and thesis
  • Must have a demonstrable commitment to public engagement, and performance record.
  • A record of successful teaching, and commitment to teaching excellence and service at the University level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in conducting and publishing organized disciplinary research.
  • A record of professional experience and research/creative works in Music Education
Supplemental Information

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have strong foundational skills along with expertise in Music Education.
  • Have served on Dissertation and Thesis committees as a chair and or committee member
  • A minimum 18 credit hours at master's or above in French Horn or another instrument is preferred, but not required
  • Experience with NASM accreditation is preferred, but not required
  • Strong commitment to innovative teaching, research, and public engagement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students across the department and university.
