Job Description

The instructional faculty member shall have the primary responsibilities of teaching legal communication and skills-based courses, as well as the performance of service functions. The faculty member shall be held accountable for these obligations as they contribute to the attainment of the mission of the University and the School of Law. This position is a non-tenure track, term appointment as an Assistant Professor with year-round service and instruction obligations. Councils and Committees: The instructional faculty member shall serve on law school and university councils and committees as elected or appointed Faculty Scholarship Expectation: Research and scholarship obligations that are not necessary to the fulfillment of instruction and service obligations are not required. However, to advance in rank or term of contract, scholarship and research performance, as defined by the Faculty/Staff Policy Manual and the Law School Supplement, is necessary and will be considered. As a doctoral level institution, LMUs faculty duties, responsibilities, and reward systems support the scholarship trilogy of teaching, research/creative achievement, and service. Consequently, the University will consider faculty development, workload allocation, merit pay, and promotion processes, which offer incentives for scholarly activities and achievements and promote faculty research productivity. Based on discipline, academic expertise, and institutional mission, elements of the evidentiary scholarly outcomes list (Faculty/Staff Policy Manual and Law School Supplement) should comprise the faculty members professional portfolio

Required Qualifications

Juris Doctor (or equivalent degree); law license in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction; *evidence of strong legal writing skills; and *evidence of potential for effective teaching and student mentoring

Preferred Qualifications

Strong background in legal writing and skills, which could include practice and teaching experience; effective communication skills; knowledge and mastery of relevant content; commitment to improving students learning and achievement through teaching and advising; and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
