TENURE-TRACK POSITION -COMMUNICATION STUDIES- The Department of Communication Studies invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor to begin August 2026, pending final administrative approval. We are looking for a broadly trained specialist with expertise in Sports Communication.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to teach courses in the field of sports communication and supervise undergraduate research projects as part of the College's Independent Study (I.S.) requirement. All faculty teach non-major courses and contribute to the First-Year Seminar Program. In addition to teaching courses in sports communication (e.g., Sports Communication, Rhetoric of Sports, Sports Institutions, Sports Ethics, and Sports Marketing), the successful candidate will also regularly teach core courses in the department such as Introduction to Communication Studies and Public Speaking as well as courses in areas currently offered by the department such as small group communication, organizational communication, intercultural communication, rhetoric, and mediated communication depending on their expertise. The teaching load is 5.5 courses per year (which includes credited mentoring for student I.S. projects).
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Communication Studies and/or an interdisciplinary Ph.D. with a focus on sports communication and/or leadership. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but a Ph.D. is preferred. Prior teaching is desirable, and applicants should provide evidence of their ability to teach introductory and upper-level courses.
Preference will be given to candidates whose research and teaching connect with one or more of the College's interdisciplinary programs such as Africana Studies, Global Media and Digital Studies, Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies, or Urban Studies. Knowledge of sports administration and/or sports management is also desirable but not required. Finally, we welcome candidates with an interest in contributing to our unique experiential learning program called Pathways, which include Activism and Social Change, Entrepreneurship, or Global Impacts.
