Job Summary:
The Good News Bears will work directly with new students and families and report to the Head Bears and the Director of the Office of Student Involvement. Good News Bears responsibility lies in the successful transition of new students to the ONU family. In all activities, GNBs recognize that customer service excellence in working with students and their family members is a top priority. As a Good News Bear, you will play an integral role in ensuring new students have an enjoyable and informed day on campus. This is a great opportunity for leaders and a fantastic way to show your pride for ONU.
Principal Responsibilities
As a Good News Bear, you will be responsible for:
1. Spring Responsibilities:
• Participate in the training sessions
• Complete all necessary paperwork with the Office of Human Resources
• Maintain communication with the Head Bears and the Office of Student Involvement Staff
2. Summer Responsibilities:
• Attend each Summer Orientation Session - June 9, 10, 17 & 18 (with the possibility of June 16)
• Help organize the materials needed for each Summer Orientation session
• Engage with students and family members and answer questions
• Facilitate panels and various sessions throughout Summer Orientation
• Assist with the evaluation process for new students and family members
• Participate in preparation for each program-stuff packets, setup facilities, check in students/families, escort students/families to sessions, collaborate with University staff
• Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills:
• Demonstrate the ability to work effectively and positively in a team environment
• Possess a positive attitude during Summer Orientation
• Possess a strong desire to represent ONU and be a role model for new students
• Pride in being an Ohio Northern student and familiarity with ONU resources and services
• Possess effective communication skills
• Have energy and enthusiasm
Minimum Qualifications:
• Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students through fall 2026
• Applicants must demonstrate academic proficiency with a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA at the conclusion of fall 2025 and maintained through spring 2026
• Applicants must be in good conduct standing with the University
• Applicants must follow and support University policies
