27 News in Topeka is looking for a Prime Newscast Producer to lead our 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts. It’s one of the most challenging and rewarding roles in our newsroom, perfect for someone who thrives under pressure, loves local news and brings creativity to every rundown.

You’ll drive coverage decisions, shape the storytelling and keep the newsroom on track when management leaves for the day. We’re looking for a strong writer, fast thinker and calm leader who can craft compelling, visual newscasts that connect with viewers.

This job is a proven career launcher. Past producers from this position have advanced directly to top markets, including Denver, Kansas City and Orlando. You’ll also take part in Nexstar’s yearlong producer development program, guided by an experienced Kansas City producer.

What You’ll Do

  • Produce, write and stack evening newscasts

  • Approve scripts and make key editorial decisions

  • Lead coverage in breaking news situations

  • Write for digital and social platforms

  • Collaborate with anchors, reporters and photojournalist

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Strong writing and news judgment

  • Composure under deadline pressure

  • Experience with ENPS, BitCentral and Adobe Premiere preferred

  • Willingness to work flexible hours
